世界中で、海洋環境保全に向けた議論が巻き起こり、また多くの対策が打たれつつある。特に海洋プラスチック問題や東京オリンピック・パラリンピック開催も念頭においた食糧調達基準などは、危急の課題だが、日本の取り組み姿勢やスピードに対しては、国内外から様々な意見が出されている。そこで、世界を代表する海洋環境政策の専門家及び経済ジャーナリストをゲストに迎え、国際動向と日本の取り組みについて、それぞれの視点から率直な意見を紹介いただく。また、対策に向けた政策を推進する環境省の若手職員、関連のアカデミアを牽引する研究者、世界展開する日本企業の代表、若者らしいアイデアで課題解決に挑む京都大学の学生をパネリストに迎え、パネルセッションを行う。

Discussions have been triggered and many measures have been taken for the marine environment conservation across the world. Ocean plastic pollution and food procurement criteria, giving thought to Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, are critical issues. A variety of opinions have been expressed from home and abroad on Japan’s stance and speed in tackling the issues.  We have invited a leading expert of the marine environmental policies and an economic journalist as guest speakers of the symposium. They will openly introduce international trends and Japan’s efforts from their own perspectives. We will also have a panel session with these panelists: an early-career staff of the Ministry of the Environment who is driving forward the policies for the countermeasures, a researcher who leads related academic fields, a representative of Japanese company which is developing its business worldwide and Kyoto University students challenging the issues with their youthful ideas.
